Essential Oils

What is it that you smell when you smell an orange or walk through a forest of pine trees? It is the essential oil of that plant. When it is extracted and concentrated, just one drop becomes far more powerful than the plant itself!

Essential oils can

  • Freshen the air in a non-toxic way
  • Uplift the mood, help manage stress, and clarity
  • Support normal cellular function throughout the body
  • Improve sleep

Using Essential Oils

As a Brand Partner with Young Living, one of my favorite ways to use essential oils is by using them to replace toxic chemicals in my environment. For decades, I have been sensitive to synthetic scents from perfumes, candles, personal products, and household products that would cause headaches, and fatigue. Because of that, my environment and the products that I have bought over the years have been free of toxic chemical fragrances leaving my environment less toxic but not pretty smelling.

That was such a boring way to live! Even some essential oils would cause the same reaction! That is until I discovered high quality essential oils! Now people are always commenting on how wonderful I smell or how wonderful my house smells when I’m diffusing the oils.

Three ways to use essential oils

Aromatic

  • Put a few drops on your hands and breathe in, or even breathe directly from the bottle.
  • Add to a diffuser.
  • Orange for example: gives a wonderful feeling of happiness by immediately reaching the limbic system of the brain when inhaled. I put a drop on my hands before bed and place them by my head and go to sleep happy.

Topically

  • Rub a drop or two of the oil to the back of your neck, bottom of your feet, wrist, or anywhere else you may desire. Add a carrier oil if you develop sensitivity to a particular oil.
  • Add essential Oils to homemade body products.
  • ***Please read labels to see if a carrier oil is needed. Some essential oils are hot!
  • Some oils cause photosensitivity. Look at the label and avoid sun exposure for 12-24 hours with these oils.

***A carrier oil such as coconut or olive oil has larger molecules to help decrease sensitivity to hot essential oils. (do not use butter vegetable oil, or petroleum)

Internally

(only use oils that are labeled for consumption!)

  • Add a drop or two to an empty gelatin capsule topped off with a carrier oil for various system supports.
  • Add flavoring to food or water in a glass or stainless steel container.
  • Young Living’s Vitality line is FDA approved as GRAS (Generally Regarded as Safe) and labeled as such. Don’t use just any essential oil, they need to be FDA approved as GRAS.

Bed-time diffuser

Add these oils to the water in your diffuser. Use less for a smaller diffuser.

  • 2 drops Marjoram
  • 2 drops Peppermint
  • 2 drops Eucalyptus
  • 4 drops Lavender

Face serum

  • 8 drops Frankincense
  • 3 drops Lavender
  • 2 drops Patchouli
  • 1 drop Cedarwood
  • ½ tsp extract oil (pomegranate, carrot seed, or red raspberry)
  • 1-2 drops Vitamin E oil
  • Carrier oil (either almond or jojoba) I prefer jojoba oil.

Put everything in a 15 ml dropper bottle adding the carrier oil last. Fill to just below the neck of the bottle and swirl to mix.
